Day 9 of The Trip — Laying Low in Paso Robles

Cousin Larry, Charlotte , and myself out for a little afternoon matching of wines with cheeses and chocolates. It was a rough assignment but somebody had to do it!

OK all you virtual hitchhikers, everybody out of the truck!  It’s getting to smell kinda funky in here after 8 days on the road with you guys!  Or maybe it’s just me.  Anyway, I think I’m gonna roll down all the windows and run this thing through one of these automatic car washes.  With the temperature outside at 110, it shouldn’t take long to dry out and we can be ready for another 1500 miles!  Yesterday was one of those “timeout days”.  You know after you’ve been on the road for a while, you just need to stop and take a time out to get all the necessary things out of the way.  We did all the laundry and ironing during the really hot part of the day.  We did manage to venture out for a light lunch downtown but were soon back in our really nice room taking that “nap of the retired”..  Man that is becoming the favorite part of my day!  Then as the sun went down and things began to heat up, we made it over to Larry and Myra’s place to eat some awesome ribs and potato salad. It was all washed down with a great red wine (we are surrounded by wineries)!  We stayed until everybody was ready to turn in and tried to catch up on years of conversations we had missed out on.  What a great feeling to re-connect with a family member that has been out of your world for so long!  I really love these people!  We are already planning our next meeting trip.  These are just too much fun!

  1. Ted and Charlotte——–sounds like a wonderful trip so far—-and yes—we all deserve a “timeout day” and an afternoon nap once in a while. I’m jealous —wished my husband was retired——but, we’d still be raising grandgirls—so no vacations for just the two of us.

    • Hey Janie
Good to see you’re still on board. Yeah , these “strategy planning days” sure come in handy every now and then. I get to slide in between the sheets at about 2:00 pm, right after the maid gets the room all ready for another day! Man there is no feeling like it! The only part I ‘m having problems believing is it took ya’ll so long to talk me into retiring!
I woke up just in time to get out to one of the local vinyards for their afternoon wine-tasting and matching the wines with cheeses and chocolates! Man, it’s a rough assignment but someone has to step up and do it! As usual, I’m ready to do my part! I have to go take care of Capehart. Seems he’s having a problem in the backseat with Edge. I was counting on you to keep those guys in line back there! Don’t let me down!

  2. Hey Ted,

Still enjoying the virtual road trip except for….I hate to complain but it’s getting kinda cramped back here in the back seat. I don’t mind Jane and Janie (actually I’m sorta enjoying it) but can you make Edgerton and Hughes get in back of the pickup bed. They are starting to get on my nerves plus they are very annoying. This should eliminate the smell odor as well. Edgerton keeps wanting me to pull his finger and then there is a rude noise and then he starts laughing. I’m not falling for that trick again. Anyway thought that might solve some of our problems. Keep up the good driving and pass me another cold one back here. I’m thursty my friend.

    Keith

    • Hey Capehart,
Don’t start with the tattle-taleing on your “bath house buddies”. Yeah, I saw that picture of the three of you in the “love grotto” of the San Fran “bathhouse” playing “grab and giggle”! If they aren’t giving you enough attention, hug on Jane and Janie and maybe they’ll come around.
About passing you another cold one, yeah well, it seems your Florida Disneyworld VISA was rejected and you’ve been put on a “CASH ONLY” basis until we get that little problem straightened out. So that will be $9.00 for the Keystone Light. Before you say anything out of order, remember I’m paying $4.25 for gas on Edge’s recommendation!
I sure am glad to have you in back to keep those other two occupied!

  3. Hey Ted & Charlotte,
Val and I are just back home from Canada and catching up on your travels west, particularly to California wine country. Now, I am extremely jealous. If there’s anything I love, it’s got to be my old bro’ and his wonderful wife, Myra, and of course the great wines of California. What I would have given to have been there with you guys for the ribs and the wine of the day and what I know must have been some great conversation. You and Charlotte keep up the good work doing as little as possible, enjoying the best things in life, and looking forward to an even better tomorrow. Y’all take care. Look forward to seeing you one of these days.

    • Hey George,
Good to have you “on board” our virtual road trip. We are having a good time and hope you can ride along with us for a ways. Looking forward to your comments as we take this road show north!

  4. Hey Ted….Good Grief!!! Definately throw Paul and Don in the back, and while you are at it toss Keith back there with them. If you cover the bed with a tarp and fill it with water, they will feel right at home. Janie, Jane and I will pitch them cold ones as we travel down the road. If San Francisco is on the agenda, you can ditch those three at their ‘Bath House’…yep, they are Spa Buds…see pic on Pauls 65’er Profile.

Sure am enjoying this trip to wine country. My fav is any white wine…hint!!!! Hey, did you and Charlotte take a turn on the dance floor to show off your Paso Doble in Paso Robles?

I’m updating the Pics you have added here on your Slideshow on the 65’er Website. Will update your Travel Link on the Homepage as well.
    Sue

    PS…Stick to your ‘ShotGun’ Charlotte!

    • Hey Sue,
Yeah, I think what we have going on in the back is just a little jealous spa buddy spat. Give them another round, Don’t forget Keith is on CASH ONLY for the time being. They’ll be all “buddied-up” and ready for another “love grotto photo op” by the time the old truck rolls up on HaightAshbury!
